Are You Sitting Down?

If not, you just might want to take a seat before proceeding.

I am with child.

Yep...you read correctly. Go ahead...get it all out. The laughter, that is. It's more than a little comical, I know. When Steve announced it at church yesterday, the collective gasp and cheer were followed by multiple waves of laughter. So glad we could provide entertainment for you all.

Yes, I am 43.

Yes, Steve is 51.

Yes, our sons are old enough to know how this "happened to" Mom and Dad.

Yes, our current youngest will be a Freshman in college when this one goes off to Kindergarten.

No, we didn't do this on purpose.

After the laughter has died down, there are actually serious issues at hand. Afterall, I am of "advanced maternal age" (the medical world deems this phrase more positive than previous ones - bwah ha!), and there are many potential risks for the pregnancy and delivery, so we do covet your prayers for the baby's health. We have already seen a good heartbeat on our first ultrasound, but the baby is small for its gestational age, so we are keeping a close eye on his progress (that's the generic "his").

This also raises for us the question of whether or not I can manage the daily needs of an infant and Riesa simultaneously. I am finally old enough to realize that I am not Wonder Woman...it only took about 40 years to figure that out. So pray for wisdom as we determine Riesa's future.

That's about all I have to say about that...for now, anyway!

First of all....congratulations. Second...it's about freakin' time! We're really happy for Steve and the boys and we'll pray for you sweet Lori.

Sounds like you're cup is full girl. One day at a time.

Yes. I contributed to the laughter in church yesterday. But please know we are praying for yours and the baby's health and for all the decisions you will have to make regarding what responsibilities you can handle.

Wow!! Will be praying for you and the baby, especially since this must be a time of stress for you because of your brother's situation. I'll also be praying for you to have wisdom about Riesa's care.

And congratulations!

Yes, I will pray for you, baby, Riesa, brother, family and the many other things that are going on in your life. Keep us posted. Forgive me for laughing. It was a laugh of joy :) Joanie

Lori, when I called my parents yesterday, the first thing Dad said was "guess who's pregnant!" Thankfully he didn't really make me guess, because I never would've! Congratulations! And I'll be praying for all the concerns that come along with the happiness.

Lori - what a blessing! I mean, you are already young for you age - this way you can stay that way forever! My mom was 41 when my youngest brother was born. We'll be praying for you guys and for that little person. He or she will have a great little playmate in Julian!

My initial comment was not PG so I'll just say Congratulations and we're praying for you, your family, and the new little one. Man I wish I could have seen Steve deliver that announcement!

Fantastic news. But I hope it is not contagious!

Hurrah! Laura just called me and said, "Have you read blogs lately? Do you know who's pregnant?" And you were my first guess! Okay, okay, so you're the only person whose blog I know Laura and I both read, but still...!! =) How fun! Now we can have playdates! =P

On a serious note, we'll be praying for you...

Congratulations Lori and family! I will be praying for that sweet little baby and a healthy pregnancy. I think your boys are going to be the best big brothers for he/she. I remember how Grant would come and hold Ethan when I was in town visiting...as if it were the most natural thing for him to do. Kind of fun that we can be pregnant at the same time...no laughing here just a big smile.

Thanks for all the congratulations, well-wishes, prayers and encouragement. My plate is definitely full...

BS - I want to know what you were gonna say...just e-mail Steve...I'm sure he'll enjoy it!

Jandy - you mean, when it comes to producing offspring I'm not the first to come to mind? Not in this church, huh? We bring the average WAY down!

Congratulations! To be born into the Shaffer family, what a blessing! Just think: now you can spin the Gunnar Madsen and Sandra Boynton CDs again!

Praying for you all daily.

Rhonda, I'm not convinced that's really you! Is someone posting in your name? I was expecting a cutting remark about sending this baby back like I did the last 2 helpless creatures that entered my home!

You're so sweet....today. Are you O-K? ;-)

btw...I think you are Wonder Woman!!

Lori,

Whatever could you be talking about? I'm sure I have no idea.

Looks like you may have some residual guilt associated with the abandonment of your pets. (How DO you sleep at night???) If you would like to work through this, I will graciously loan you my dog for awhile.

Lori Waggoner said...

Debbie...could you be more specific, please? ;-)

Rhonda, Residual guilt? You have no idea! And...I DON'T sleep. That's a very generous offer, but I'll stick with the guilt and insomnia, thanks.

Simon was not abandoned. He is very happy in Hornedom. So I don't know about dog #1, but Lori should feel no guilt about dog #2.

Jennifer...I've heard great things about Simon. Looks like he found a great new home. I started to say that Simon went from coach to first class, but I better stop while I'm ahead!! :-)

Lori...you know I'm teasing. How long has this sparring been going on, anyway? Oh, yeah, now I remember: since the day in choir about ten years ago when you told me to shoot my dog Jake. ;-)

...and by the way, I told my mother that you were pregnant. Much later in the day, unrelated to our immediate conversation, she said "Be sure to tell The Dog Hater congratulations."

Lori Waggoner said...

Jennifer, thanks for giving me a little credit. I don't consider Simon abandoned.

Rhonda, it was an innocent pantomime...not a sincere injunction to shoot your dog. Believe that one?

Greetings and thanks to your mom from The Queen of All Dog-Haters. (Please see that she gets the title right next time, please!)
