Wordsmith Wednesday

Root:

rogare (v) Latin - to ask or question

Derivatives:

interrogate - to question thoroughly (interrogated, interrogator, interrogation, interrogative, interrogatory)

rogation - a solemn cermonial petition, especially in regard to a law

abrogate - to repeal or annul...as in after a rogation (abrogated, abrogator, abrogative, abrogable)

derogatory - tending to lessen in value or detract from

arrogant - above questioning due to unwarranted pride (arrogance, arrogantly, arrogate, arrogation)

prerogative - a request beforehand which bestows a superior advantage

surrogate - one who is asked to act in place of another

FYI:  I am aware that there are words which do NOT come from Latin...but they are few and far between...so I will dominantly feature Latin derivatives.  I promise to incorporate some Greek origins too.
