A Month of Holidays

I only recently became aware of how many holidays I've been missing out on.  I discovered a nifty website that lists both the commonly and uncommonly celebrated holidays.  For the month of November, I shall attempt to catalogue and provide brief commentary on each one...so you too can be fully enlightened.

Of course, most of us are aware that today is All Saints Day.  Since much is written about this day, I will simply share a prayer and a hymn in remembrance of that great cloud of witnesses that have gone before us.

Almighty God, with whom do live the spirits of those who depart hence in the Lord, and with whom the souls of the faithful, after they are delivered from the burden of the flesh, are in joy and felicity; We give thee hearty thanks for the good examples of all those thy servants, who, having finished their course in faith, do now rest from their labours.  And  we beseech thee, that we, with all those who are departed in the true faith of thy holy Name, may have our perfect consummation and bliss, both in body and soul, in thy eternal and everlasting glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.  (BCP, 1789)

For All the Saints remains one of the great hymns of the church; written by W.W. How and most commonly sung to the tune Sine Nomine by Ralph Vaughan Williams:
