So, here are MY picks for Opening Day Lineup:
Schumaker - LF
Ludwick - RF
Pujols - 1B
Ankiel - CF
Glaus - 3B
Molina - C
Miles - 2B
Izturis - SS
Thompson - RHP
This line-up is similar to today's - we had a DH against Baltimore, I switched up Miles for Kennedy, plus another minor change or two.
This is really quite an impressive line-up, both offensively and defensively. Now we just have to wait and see what our pitchers can do.
Tell me what YOUR picks would be for Opening Day...uh...everyone except April, that is. She has been officially banned from commenting on my baseball blogs!! Hah!

I wish I shared your optimism, Lori. It's going to be a tough year, I think. My guess is we finish 4th or 5th in the worst division in baseball. We have what is undoubtedly the worst middle infield in the majors. Really, the only position where we have an above average player is 1B, and he might have surgery after a month.
Anyways...our lineup.
LF Barton
RF Duncan
1B Pujols
3B Glaus
CF Ankiel
C Molina
2B Kennedy
SP Wainwright
SS Izturis
Don't get me wrong, I love the Cardinals. There's not much I spend more time thinking about than baseball. But it's going to be a looong year. Who knows, maybe Rasmus will be up by May. That'll be fun to watch.
Pastor Anderson,
With all due respect, Reverend.....Duncan? You gotta be kidding me! Why Duncan? This guy needs to go to the AL NOW! He is so incredibly pitiful defensively. He lacks a basic instinct out there and looks like an absolute buffoon!
And you appear to be "LaRussa's man through and through" by sticking with his pitcher-in-the-8-spot invention. I'm not opposed to it, in fact, I think it COULD have a touch of brilliance and become standard practice in a decade or so. OR....maybe you just think Izturis is THAT BAD at the plate?
And "worst middle infield"? You sound a bit like my old pal, Bernie Miklasz! O-K, we're not great, I admit, and we're even worse when Kennedy is in there...
And maybe I've just revealed that I am a naive fan who pretends to know baseball. It's just that I hear all the talking heads say how incredibly awful we are, and then when I put my lineup together, I thought "Gees, we're not THAT bad!" and I started to get excited.
In about 3 weeks, my reality may join the rest of yours!
I've gotta stand up for Duncan. He's actually one of my favorite players on the team, because of his power and what seems to be a real enjoyment of the game. And while he'll never be great in the OF, I don't think he's quite as bad as he looks.
I admire a man who sticks by his decision...that means you meant it in the first place. He enjoys the game because he's perpetually drunk...
I agree that he brings enthusiasm and adds a spark where we've had a bunch of older guys who had been there long enough to take themselves too seriously.
He was cute (and yes, he's practically young enough to be my child, so I can say "cute") at the World Series parade...I've never seen anyone so happy.
