What I'll Miss About Winter

A warm fire...that's it.

I love fireplaces, but we didn't use ours the winter entire season...it was too much trouble to remove all the tape.

Every spring we get an infestation of wasps in the house; they come inside through the fireplace. I got tired of being a swatting death machine, so I taped up every crack in our glass fireplace insert. At least it makes for interesting viewing--watching the wasps crawl around on the glass then eventually drop into the ashes from exhaustion.

We had a gas fireplace at a house we used to live in. That was GREAT! A nice roaring fire at the flip of a switch. I turned my nose up at it at first, but now I miss it.

I'd say that's worth fixing, eh?! This is the way I not only endure, but delight in the winter...that fire keeps me going. In fact, I'm disappointed when we don't have enough days cold enough to light it up!

We get birds coming down through our chimney in the spring - talk about freaky! I've had to chase a number of them out of the house. They are rather intimidating, 'cause they're more freaked-out than I am and flying their soot-laden bodies into the walls and ceiling.

I pretty much still turn my nose up at the gas fireplaces...part of the ambience for me is the SMELL and the SOUNDS, which you miss out on with gas. Hubby wants to get an insert, but I'm resisting (mildly) as long as I can!

I'm jealous of your fire. Our fireplace has no critters coming in because it is decorative only. The crazy thing is I didn't realize that until after we moved in. I never noticed there's no chimney on the side of the house where the fireplace is. Duh!

Oh, Jennifer! How disappointing for you! It must really look authentic!

WHY would anyone do that? Cruel.

Maybe next winter I'll have you over and we can read together by the fire...or talk...or eat...or drink. Whatever.
