You all remember The Poky Little Puppy, don't you? It's one of those classic Little Golden Books that we all read in early childhood. It's probably as much the look, feel and smell of these books as it is the content that keeps us coming back to them each generation. The copy is usually rather simple. But those illustrations! They aren't lush or luminous, like Spirin's, but somehow they pierce right to a child's psyche...and never leave. At least that's true for me. Nostalgic. That's the word.
Well...in case you didn't know...there is more than one Poky Little Puppy book: The Poky Little Puppy's First Christmas, in which he learns that "the best gifts of all are the ones that you give." It's sweet and kids love it.
